Building Your First Assistant
3.4 Building Your First Assistant
An assistant is the AI you configure to handle a specific job — answering calls, qualifying leads, booking appointments, or following up with contacts. You can create as many assistants as you need, each built for a different purpose.
Before you build:
Make sure the following are in place before configuring your first assistant:
SalesBot Launch is purchased and your account is active
GoHighLevel OAuth is connected
A phone number is assigned (for voice) or an active tag is set (for chat)
AI Voice Credits are purchased (to go live with calls)
What you configure in an assistant:
The full configuration steps are inside the Docs — click "Docs" at the bottom left of your Better SalesBot account and go to Build → Assistants. At a high level, every assistant is built around:
Identity and prompt — Who the assistant is, what it knows, and how it should respond
Knowledge base — The information it draws answers from — your FAQs, product details, policies
Tools — What it can do: book appointments, qualify leads, transfer to a human, update contact fields
Voice or chat channel — Whether it handles calls, chat conversations, or both
Phone number or active tag — What triggers it into action
The four most common assistant types:
Inbound support — Answers questions from callers or chat contacts using your knowledge base
Outbound lead generation — Calls or messages a list to introduce an offer and surface interested leads
Lead qualification — Asks a series of questions to filter leads against your criteria
Appointment booking — Qualifies a lead and books them directly onto your calendar
You can run one assistant or chain multiple together so a lead flows from first contact through to a booked appointment.
Testing before going live:
Build and test your assistant inside the platform before assigning it to a live phone number or active tag. The Docs Quickstart article covers how to run a test conversation.
