ActiveCampaign is an email marketing platform built around a visual automation engine: you design "if this happens, do that" workflows, a purchase triggers a follow-up sequence, a form fill changes a lead score, instead of just sending one-off blasts. It includes a lightweight CRM for sales follow-up.
Its differentiator versus simpler email tools is automation depth: branching logic, conditional splits, lead scoring, and site or event tracking that trigger messages based on actual behavior rather than just list segments.
As of late 2025, billing shifted to charge based on total contacts in the account, including inactive ones.
