What Is SPIN Selling and How to Use It
The four-question framework that gets prospects to sell themselves

Let the Prospect Sell Themselves
Situation, Problem, Implication, Need-Payoff
SPIN Selling, developed by Neil Rackham, is a four-part questioning sequence used in complex, high-value sales. Instead of pitching, you ask questions in a specific order that lead the prospect to voice their own problem, feel its cost, and conclude they need a solution — all before you've said a word about your offer. It works because people trust their own conclusions far more than a salesperson's claims.
Who This Is For: You sell something that requires a real conversation, not a checkout button — consulting, agency services, high-ticket software, coaching. Your close rate depends on how well you understand and articulate the prospect's problem before you propose anything.
SPIN Question Builder Prompt
Act as a sales discovery coach. My product/service is: [describe it]. My typical prospect is: [describe their role and situation]. Write me 3 Situation questions, 3 Problem questions, 3 Implication questions, and 3 Need-Payoff questions I can ask on a discovery call with this prospect, in that exact order. Make each question specific to my industry, natural to say out loud, and designed to get the prospect talking rather than answering yes/no.
