Store an AI Knowledge Base 8x Cheaper With TurboVec

TurboVec is a free, open-source library built on Google Research's TurboQuant algorithm. It compresses a vector knowledge base (the kind AI and RAG products keep on a server) to roughly one-eighth of its normal storage size. Example from the source: 10 million documents that would normally take 31 GB, billed monthly, shrink to about 4 GB, with the same answers and accuracy, for an 8x cheaper server bill.

Who This Is For

• Builders running an AI product or internal assistant that keeps a vector knowledge base on a paid server

• Operators who want to cut hosting costs without changing what the AI answers

What You'll Have

• An understanding of how TurboVec compresses vector storage roughly 8x

• A cost comparison you can run on your own document count before switching

What You'll Need

• An existing vector knowledge base (RAG setup) and its current storage size

• The TurboVec library (the download link was gated in the source and still needs verifying)

• Comfort running an install on your server
